History, Leadership, and Vision of CDFA
The Chennai District Fencing Association (CDFA) was formed in 1991 and is affiliated with the Tamilnadu Fencing Association. Since its inception, CDFA has actively participated in all categories of championships organized by the State Association, including U/10, U/12, Sub-Junior, Cadet, Junior, Youth, and Senior categories.
We take immense pride in our players who have bagged numerous medals at State and National levels, bringing laurels to our district.
Mr. P. Viswanathan founded the Tamilnadu Fencing Association in 1987. A former member of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), he was the pioneering force behind the development of fencing across Tamil Nadu.
In the early stages, recognizing that fencing is an expensive sport, he often contributed from his own pocket, even manufacturing affordable masks and weapons to ensure the sport reached everyone.
Even at the age of 72, he continues to contribute to the sport's development. He has groomed numerous players—including Olympian C.A. Bhavani Devi—and has mentored coaches and technical officials throughout the state. He is also the founder of the Gymnastic Association of Tamilnadu.
